You’re hiring a family, not a call center

D&K has been working on Howard County homes since 1988. Two owners, a small crew, and almost all of our work still comes from neighbors telling neighbors.

That means no commissioned salesman in your living room, no financing pitch, and no bait price that climbs once the shingles come off. You get a written number, and that’s the number.

It also means we still answer the phone ourselves — seven days a week, because roofs don’t only leak on Tuesdays.

What neighbors say

New roof and 6-inch gutters. Awesome company — they worked with me and installed a new roof and gutters quickly.

Kenneth R. · Google review

I was referred to D&K for roof and gutter replacement. Very responsive, came out the next day for an assessment, and reasonable compared to the other quotes I’d received.

Jack M. · Google review

They are the best — came out promptly and did the job. Very clean, reliable and reasonable.

How a job actually goes

Four steps. No surprises in the middle of them.

We come look

Someone gets on the roof, not just in the driveway. Usually within a few days of your call.

You get a written number

Itemized, with the materials named. That’s what you pay unless we open the roof and find rotted decking — which we’d show you first.

The work happens

Most single-family roofs are one day, two at most. We tarp the landscaping and run a magnet over the yard before we go.

We walk it with you

Before final payment, not after.

We’ll call you back the same day. No obligation, no sales visit you didn’t ask for.

Questions homeowners ask us

Straight answers, including the ones other contractors dodge.

How much does a new roof cost in Howard County?

It depends on the size and pitch of the roof, how many layers have to come off, and whether any decking underneath needs replacing. Rather than quote a range that turns out to be wrong for your house, we come look and give you a written, itemized number for free. What we can tell you is that the estimate is the price — the only thing that changes it is rotted decking we find once the old shingles are off, and we show you that before we replace anything.

Do I need a full replacement or can you just repair it?

Often a repair is enough. A few lifted shingles, a failed pipe boot, or flashing that has pulled away from a chimney are all repairs, not replacements. We have no commission riding on the answer, so we will tell you honestly which one you are looking at. As a rough guide: if the roof is under fifteen years old and the problem is in one spot, it is usually a repair.

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most single-family homes in this area are a one-day job. Larger or steeper roofs, or ones with a lot of valleys and dormers, can run into a second day. We tarp the landscaping before we start and run a magnet over the yard before we leave.

Do you work with insurance claims?

Yes. After storm or wind damage we document what we find with photos and a written assessment so you have something concrete to give your insurance company. We will not tell you a roof is destroyed when it isn't — that practice is common in this industry and it is one of the reasons we don't do it.

What areas do you serve?

We are based in Clarksville and cover Howard County — Clarksville, River Hill, Highland, Dayton, Glenelg, West Friendship, Fulton, Scaggsville, Columbia, Ellicott City, Elkridge, Savage and Jessup — plus Laurel, North Laurel and Burtonsville just over the county line. If you are nearby and not on that list, call and ask.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We hold Maryland Home Improvement Commission license #34676 and carry insurance. We are also certified installers for TAMKO, IKO and CertainTeed. Ask us for our certificate of insurance any time — a contractor who hesitates on that question is telling you something.

How quickly can you come out?

Usually within a few days for an estimate. For an active leak, call us — we answer the phone seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and we will get out as fast as we can.
